I can definatly see the X-Files influence. It was the first thing I thought of.

The texture, the softness of it, seems to match their facial expressions very well. And they seem to be sorta thematically opposites, with one shining and the other emanating that very cool darkness-effect.

And love the detail on the hair, especially the scruffy beard-growth. Ah, protecting the veil can bring such melancholy, it seems.
